Hey you, reading this… move your eyes a few inches down and to the right. You see those two new areas in the sidebar marked ‘Hardware Upgrade Goal’ and ‘Donations’? Good. Congratulations, you’ve passed the official Epoch Art Eye Examination… which 9 out of 10 doctors agree is utterly fucking useless in diagnosing eye problems.
However, it does help you help me fix my problem… my hardware problem, that is (OMFG, brilliant segue, Epoch)!
So we set up this little plugin to help track the progress towards my goal of $1,550 USD to upgrade my hardware on my render rig so I can move forward with Clara Ravens Episode 4: Colombina’s Illusion entirely in Octane. After some long discussion with my new friend/hardware expert/drinker of the beers gazukull, we have come up with a killer rig that will be dual 4 GB GPUs and will outperform any machine I’ve ever owned. Unfortunately, as I had initially predicted, I will in fact need to get a new CPU. The LGA 1156 socket from Intel has been discontinued, so finding an 1156 socket motherboard that has dual PCI-E x16 slots for the two GPUs has been impossible, since none are being manufactured anymore.
This is all that is new at the moment. It took two days due to the length of time it took to run cloth sims on Clara’s dress (which, natively, was not even a long dress). Then I had issues with sculpts completely blowing up in Poser, including Clara’s dress and Polly face (I sculpted a biting lip morph that completely went bananas and had the poor girl looking like she had leprosy). Also, the stockings and garters take FOREVER to sculpt a fit for. I think I opened Pandora’s Box when I showed that Clara will be in thigh-highs in the new comic, because now EVERYONE is clamoring for more, and I am really tired of sculpting fits. But I digress…
Here is a desktop wallpaper of Clara and Polly in some sexy evening wear. I’ve taken the largest resolution and made several different versions of the most popular desktop resolutions. All thanks go to your commissioner, so drop him a ‘thank you’ if you download a copy for your desktop.
I’ve got quite a few commissions lined up over the next week or two, and am still taking requests for more, so if you’re interested send me an email through the contact page and let me know what you’d like to see.
Let the shit storm begin…
While I was home this past week, I had that rare time to reflect on the business as a whole; long term goals, scalability, business ideas, etc. I even had a very long conversation with a friend who gave me an incredibly insightful business idea for the DCV, but that’s not why I am posting today. Actually, let me just get right to the point, because I can feel you glaring at me right through the computer already.
Clara Ravens Episode 4: Colombina’s Illusion is being postponed for possibly up to a month in order to allow me time to take some more commissions as I upgrade my system to a fully-realized “Octane-friendly” production rig.
Right now, my staging PC is a beast; it is a very solid rig and perfect for setting everything up, but my render rig is still optimized for rendering in Firefly. I plan on swapping out the vidcard from my main PC (a 4 GB vidcard) with the one from my render rig (only 1 GB). I am then going to purchase an identical card to set up an SLI configuration. However, the motherboard on the render rig does not have two PCI-E x16 slots. So I also have to purchase a new motherboard with those specs. But wait, it gets better! To top it all off, the power supply is only 550 watts in the render rig, and the total power consumption my team calculated to be around 750-770 watts for an SLI config with the two vidcards and all other hardware. So an 800 watt power supply will need to be purchased as well.
Just dropping a quick line to let everyone know that I just got back from a little ‘vacation’ of sorts. I went home for a family reunion and got back late last night . So I got a good night’s sleep and am resuming work on Clara Ravens Episode 4: Colombina’s Illusion today. No other news related to the comic since I’ve been away for a few days, but I just wanted to keep you all apprised of what’s going on since I know you love your updates and open communication.
On an unrelated note, the affiliate plugin we had planned to use ended up not working out. We’ve gotten a refund and are looking into other options, but since the new comic is our #1 priority, it might not happen for awhile. So, in the meantime, if you’re a webmaster and would like to link Epoch Art, feel free to do so with any of the tons of banners I made for the affiliate program. They can be found on the Banners page.
Check back and the end of this week for another status update (and hopefully some art – BUT NO GUARANTEES!).
