Since part of the inspiration for the Freehope series was the hentai Bible Black, Xipomus proposed a commission idea that I just had to do. It was also my first time using volumetric lighting in Octane, and I can say the result is not worth the render time and the ‘dirtiness’ of the completed render. I think I’ll stick to painting in the effect in the future as I’ve always done, but it was a fun experiment nonetheless. But anyway, Xip gave me a reference photo of one of the Bible Black characters in a robe holding a knife, with sinister under lighting and said he wanted something like that, and Kendra doing another girl with a strap-on dildo. So that’s what this little commission is all about. He suggested the other female be a readhead, since many have mentioned that my character collection is lacking a redhead (with the exception of Leslie… why does everyone forget about her?). So I’m preemptively attaching a render of her too because I know you guys are just gonna ask for one if I don’t include it! Continue reading “Kendra’s Dark Side”
Look Who I Found!
Currently working on a short commission for Epoch Art‘s resident man-in-charge Xipomus, featuring the oldest character in the our catalog, Kendra Blake of Freehope! That commission will be finished and posted soon, but before I even started on it I decided to actually sit down and get poor Kendra up to speed with my current cast of characters in terms of visual fidelity. But, in the process, I managed to create a skin shader that absolutely blew me away! I made versions of it to satisfy sweaty and standard skin conditions, and think this may be my new skin shader for ALL of my characters. It uses subsurface scattering (like all of my previous skins do), but contains a much more subtle skin specularity that adds hugely to a realistic skin look under all lighting conditions. Take a close look at her skin’s reflectivity in certain spots and you’ll see what I mean. Continue reading “Look Who I Found!”
The Damsel and the Driver
“Well, what do you know about it then, mate?” Henry says as he slams his near-empty pint glass down hard on the pub table. “It’s not like you’ve ever been with a ten! You’ve bedded nothin’ but munters, isn’t that right?!” Henry winks and nudges Benny with his elbow, both men laughing heartily and loudly. Norman sits in silence as the men have a cheap laugh at his expense, their guffaws eventually devolving into a cacophony of unhealthy wheezing before trailing off completely. The noise of the crowded pub fills the momentary break in conversation as Benny lights up another cigarette and Henry looks around for a barmaid to bring another round.
“Actually I have,” Norman said aloud, his forceful tone cutting through the loud ambience of clinking glasses and foul bar-language. Henry and Benny simultaneously look at each other and begin cracking up. Norman rolls his eyes as the men oversell the hilarity of his declaration, tossing themselves about in their chairs. Green is the New Polly
Khazadune gave me the go-ahead to share this commissioned set so here you go. This female alien character is part of some obscure science fiction universe based on a film series called Star Wars I believe. It’s a story about some religious cult and I think there might be a robot or a luck dragon or something? I can’t remember as I don’t pay much attention to indies…
So this is a Mirialan, which is a green-skinned, near-human alien race that tattoo their face and arms to signify specific life accomplishments. Ask Khaz if you want more details, as I didn’t realize they were even in the latter trilogy until I looked them up. This character uses Polly’s exact body shape (except with a smaller, rounder breast) but has a unique face and texture done from scratch. The outfit is something I plan to use in Dark Rift (minus the tool belt, which I borrowed from Polly at Khazadune’s request since his character is a mechanic) because it’s fucking rad.
